Choose a material for the job

Compare 20 grades in one place. Start with the part's job and your machine's limits, then evaluate a sample. Supplier figures describe the source material; they do not predict the strength of your printed part.

How to compare these materials
  1. Define the failure. Decide whether bending, heat, repeated loading, weathering or appearance matters most. Write an acceptance check before choosing a grade.
  2. Check the printer. Match nozzle and bed limits, feeder, nozzle wear and enclosure requirements. A spool fitting an AMS is not proof that the printer can process the material.
  3. Compare tradeoffs. A higher supplier impact figure may come with a hotter bed or higher price. Blank data is unknown, not zero.
  4. Calibrate and repeat. Keep part orientation and process constant, change one parameter, and record results. Qualify electrical, food-contact or structural applications separately.

Four useful starting decisions

Easy setup or hotter service?

PLA's listed bed range is lower than PC or PCTG. Check the heat-deflection method and load before treating an HDT number as a service-temperature rating. Parts inside a hot enclosure or vehicle need application-specific evaluation.

Compare PLA, PETG and PCTG →

Softness or shape retention?

TPU grade, wall thickness and infill all influence feel. Compare the same geometry across hardness grades. 72D belongs to a different Shore scale and is not a substitute for a soft 95A part.

Pick a TPU hardness →

Appearance or functional evidence?

Silk, matte, wood and transparent finishes are useful choices for appearance. A render shows a concept, not an exact color or a strength test. Request a color sample for a color-critical job.

Request a sample →

Specialist material or unverified application?

CF and ESD are supplier grade names. They do not establish a base-polymer identity, resistance range or compliance for your application. Review the missing-evidence checklist before a production specification.
