Filament for the Bambu Lab A1

The A1 is an open-frame bed slinger with the AMS lite on top. Two numbers decide what you can print on it: no heated chamber, and a bed that stops at 100 °C. Everything below follows from those.

On flexible material, Bambu Lab's own wording: “TPU that can be used with AMS lite: 77D, 55D, or higher hardness. TPU that cannot be used with AMS lite: 95A, 85A, 83A, 80A, or lower hardness.” Source

Worth knowing before you order

  • The AMS lite is the only feeder that publishes an inner-diameter window, 53–58 mm. Our 54 mm hub sits inside it.
  • It is also the only Bambu feeder whose documentation names a TPU hardness it will take: 55D and harder. Our 72D qualifies; 85A through 98A do not.
  • Use the external holder for wood, carbon-fiber and ESD grades; check the nozzle and temperature requirements too.

Profiles, not guesswork

The settings hub identifies generated starting values, target machines and unsupported material mappings. A preset is not validation on this printer; review the target and calibrate temperature, flow and retraction before a production part.

Bambu Lab A1 filament questions

Do FilamentBay spools fit the Bambu Lab A1?
Yes. The A1 uses the AMS lite, which Bambu Lab publishes as taking spools 40–68 mm wide with a 53–58 mm inner diameter. Our 1 kg spool measures 65 × 200 mm with a 54 mm hub, in injection-moulded plastic rather than cardboard.
Can I print flexible TPU on the A1?
From the AMS lite, only the Shore D grade. Bambu Lab's AMS lite documentation says "TPU that can be used with AMS lite: 77D, 55D, or higher hardness", which covers our 72D but excludes 85A through 98A. Print the softer grades from the external spool holder.
What is the hottest bed the A1 reaches?
100 °C, with a 300 °C nozzle, per Bambu Lab's published specification. That is what rules out ABA, ABS on this machine.
Can I print ABS on the A1?
Not reliably. The frame is open, so anything larger than a palm tends to crack or lift. Use PETG for tough parts on this machine, or PCTG if the bed reaches its temperature.
Do you have Bambu Studio profiles?
See the settings hub for each material and format. Some files are starting presets with a different target machine, some are manual worksheets, and unconfirmed polymer mappings are withdrawn. No universal import or printer validation is claimed.
Do 3 kg and 5 kg spools work on the A1?
Not in the AMS lite: they are wider and larger than the published window. Print them from an external holder, or re-spool onto an empty 1 kg spool.
