Features

ASA candidate for outdoor prototype evaluation

ASA is a material family often considered for outdoor prototypes. FilamentBay grade-specific UV, weathering and mechanical reports are not published, and its listed settings are provisional. Compare sample behavior and obtain the required evidence before specifying service life.

A grade-specific TDS and validated print conditions are not published. Confirm the specification before ordering. Source and evidence status.

Frequently asked questions

ASA or ABS?
ASA may be a candidate for outdoor evaluation, but this grade has no published weathering or comparative mechanical report. Choose against a defined exposure, temperature and load requirement rather than assuming identical behavior or indefinite UV resistance.
Do I need an enclosure?
Yes for anything larger than a palm. ASA shrinks as it cools like ABS does, and an open frame lets the lower layers cool while the upper ones are still hot, which is what cracks a part apart.
Does it smell?
Less than ABS, but it still releases styrene while printing. Use it in a ventilated room or an enclosure with filtration.
Do I need to dry it before printing?
Popping and stringing can have several causes. Check moisture and print conditions separately. The listed drying values are supplier suggestions, not verified endpoints; confirm the grade, spool and dryer limits before heating. See the drying guide for a controlled workflow.
